Upper Midwest Tick Atlas Uelmen Disease Ecology Lab · WPP New Investigator Program
Disease trends & hex explorer →

What this is: a county-level atlas of tick encounters, the environmental conditions behind them, and tick-borne disease trends across six states — Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin. It brings together community-submitted tick photographs (iNaturalist), 45 years of PRISM climate normals, USDA/Esri land cover, the CDC's published county-status survey, state and CDC disease case surveillance, and a fitted occurrence model for the northward- expanding lone star tick. Built by the Uelmen Disease Ecology Lab for the Wisconsin Partnership Program New Investigator Program. Every measure below is labeled as either observed data or a model prediction — a model estimates where a tick is likely to occur, never how many, and never disease risk on its own.
